This is the Romanian dance called the “Învârtita” or “Bătuta” with the Hungarian version called Forgatós. The basic form is at moderate tempo with turning as a couple, in alternate directions separated by a resting step, without progressing around the dance space. A yo yo like move that will spin you into a joyous expression of the soul!
Special light is falling on Barsana Monastery as people from different places of Romania and abroad are gathering together in the spirit of celebration of traditional Romanian Easter.
Handmade bags full of home cooked foods are taken for the blessing of the priest.
The light is then taken home and even in ones’ life…
Horses always fascinated me by their elegance and beauty as well as genteelness and their ability to feel and sense people. I haven’t come too close to a horse yet perhaps because I’m still preparing for that wonderful moment but for now here are a few glances I’ve exchanges with them in my trip to Maramures.
The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse’s ears. ~Arabian Proverb
The Dacian tradition marks 1st of March as the beginning of a New Year. Everything comes to life again, flowers, nature, warmth and everyone shows this celebration in the way they dress, the way they show their love to each other..women get a symbolic “martisor” or flowers, man gets busy making long lists of flowers to send to the ones they love and admire ..there is a joy and happiness in everyone’s hearts.I had the upmost pleasure to be dressed up in the traditional attires of Maramures by Godja Ileana and her mother Nemes Maria and I can tell you, one really feels you go back in times ..hundred years! It was a special moment with lots of laughter and deep connections with the past in the same time. Thank you Ileana and Maria!
