Biserica monument istoric Hramul Sf. Arhangheli Mihail siGavriil
In the heart of Maramures, in Hoteni, one of the three wooden churches brought here in the 18th century, is a statement of well preserved of local traditions and spiritual dedication. Florin Tomas has been looking after the church and its members with consecration and much divine love. The interior is fully covered with hand made objects donated by the community from sitting mats to embroideries beautifully placed on the walls next to adorned icons or elegant spiritual paintings. At the end of the service Florin’s blessing will remain on your forehead and in your heart for a long time and you will feel like you just left a warm, embracing, loving family !
St Ana Rohia monastery
Located in the “Country of Lapus”, Maramures county, the monastery St Ana Rohia is a place of special significance, spiritual peace and comfort.
The monastery holds a rich collection of old religious books, theological and profane volumes and magazines, beside Romanian pieces holding volumes in German, Hungarian, French, English and Neo-Greek, as well as beautiful old wood and glass icons.
There are lots of stories about this place and once you step on its grounds something mystical envelops you. The catacombs leading to the main room in the church, the gothic chandeliers orating the rooms, the candle lights bathing the rooms in a gentle light, the warm colours of the decor throughout the monastery, all these lends itself to an unforgettable spiritual experience.
Expect your soul to be touched profoundly !🙏🏻💫
There is a house in the heart of Maramures, Romania, that have stolen my imagination for is an oasis of creativity and relaxation. In the potterer’s house one can try artistic skills under the kind instructions of Daniel Les, a gifted potterer, with lots of enthusiasm and love for the local tradition and his heritage. His passion for this craft is infectious and you will leave with the feeling that you are now part of Maramures, for you have touched its soil and embraced their traditions.
There is plenty of things to do, such as trips to The Blue Lake, or visit plenty of the wooden churches (Barsana not to be missed), or simply go skiing, or take the trip with carriage and horses in the snow that will make you feel part of a Tolstoi story. Sighet, Surdesti, Sapanta with its happy cemetery is not to be missed also.
Teodor Barsan a renowned wood carver of well kept tradition of Maramures crafts, has carved so many wooden gates that he lost count over the years. His craft includes crucifixes but also everyday objects including furniture, bottom drawers, spoons and various wooden items
The story goes that Teoder Barsan, has made a large wooden spoon for Monica after he met Bill Clinton in USA. If Hillary wins he wants to trade with Bill an exchange: Monica for Hilary !))
